Known as a fisherman villages, has its name taken from the church Nossa Senhora da Luz, rebuild after the 1755 Lisbon earthquake by local people.

village history goes back until the Roman times, and some ruins still can be found, which show evidence of a large complex with thermal activity and fish salting facilities.
Luz at night
Luz is surrounded by palms, white sands and rock formations. This village has become a night life point of encounter and its restaurants, bars and discos are very well known.
Black Rock
Luz is also known by its amazing black rock, surrounded by ideal surf, diving beaches, and that is believed to have been formed 150 million years ago by Monchique volcanoes.
